Boundaries can be extended so far. Australia participates in Eurovision, right?

Speaking of borders in the United States today is, in a special way, a more controversial topic than usual. When it comes to the Hispanic push: worst, in the face of the pre-eminence that self-advocates the Anglo-Saxon presence. The issue is reaching a worrying point in certain cases of rejection with absolute lack of social sanction. And in the midst of this context Spanish Royal House officially visits some of the geographical points of the North American country historically linked to this European country. And he does so in the company of the highest representative of the Government of the Canary Islands.

Why? CISLANDERUS is the answer.

“The islands: good to think”

The 1st Conference Bronislaw Malinowski that had place in the Museum of History and Anthropology of Tenerife and taught by Dr. José Alberto Galván Tudela about I Conferencia Bronislaw Malinowskithe theme … or methodology?

Islands in the development of anthropological theory

The question is due to the doubts raised me this issue, about which curiously I do not remember speaking in class, because when a field work on an island territory like Canary Islands … studying them by being surrounded by water and communications other populations historically been carried out by means of marine transportation, scarce until the Spanish conquest seems, and by air long after,  determined them as a border? From what point of view, of power, of think tank? There is a stream called diffusionism that has been applied much to this archipelago … Eliminates component explains agency but culture is seen as the transfer of customs of an ecological niche to another obviating often self-development that can be achieved, for example, between the islands and between these islands to North of the African continent from which, today, is accepted be the original population.

Being both a “limited” place per se, or a destination sought or found, The Island has been conceived as today all of non-contacted cultures, as a homogeneous block, “pure” and “isolated” or almost like a metropolis, the opposite: cultural mixing, transit, permeability, “colonized”. The two extreme poles of the border as frontier and as a border. Therefore has been always the yours a multi-sited ethnography (Marcus)? If they have been populated from the mainland, and according to emigration and exile that has been generated from different contexts island, are the islands always an imagined community (Anderson)? They are an object of study or a study of objects that are outliers or to corroborate that the generality is reproduced in a smaller space?

Thereby the islands are “good to think

“Frontiers of Peace” by Valerio Vicenzo

Throughout this time without posting administrative boundaries have been a topic very much in vogue and especially its negative side, about that at issue in the last entry: refugees.

This post relates the visual concept of the administrative borders with a message of peace worked from art, particularly by Valerio Vicenzo, to show the current senselessness of borders in Europe according to the author opinion. Do you share his view?

I don´t remember exactly the fall of the Berlin Wall in 1989, but I remember the souvenir brought by a relative not long after this fact when she visited the city and Germany …

Provisional image (no way to find my owns at home).

The commodification of this symbol, memory and historical significance marked me in a year in which I had just experienced what it was to cross a boundary between Tui (Spain) and Valença do Minho (Portugal) in the European Union. Much it is so perhaps the next drawing I did in school is influenced by the experience and discourse of the Maastricht Treaty (1992) I worked on the issue in class.

sinlímitesenlafrontera_carmenmaríarealperera_dibujo_fronteras_Unión Europea

Drawing done by me for a classroom activity. It is obvious why not I studied fine arts but also the concept of “border movement” inoculated/imagined/idealized I had in mind.

[In the case of Canary the customs question still remains missing the “free trade” -the origin of this concept deserves another post- and just with the introduction of the common European market and now even more evident due to e-commerce which implies a worldwide showcase.]

When already studying Sociology I stumbled upon to The End of History and the Last Man (Fukuyama, 1992) was convinced _, remembering precisely these souvenirs with which I start in a commemorative day like today, really this had happened: the border between two populations governed by different ideologies had opted for one of them, capitalist, at the expense of communism. Actually saw the fear generated by alternatives to the first option I’m waiting for the “mutation” that will set a new advance seen again the consequences of the “invisible hand” (Smith, 1776). “First and Third World” or “developed countries, in the developing ones and emerging powers” are labels that denote not only economic situations that are impossible to implement en bloc because there are each of them within the borders of a country or region, what it shows among other things what categories and permeable borders are …

Twenty-five years after the identity … and the economy are the drivers of popular decision making that may vary Europe’s borders once more: Catalonia.

[The language is so illustrative and revealing, sometimes even “rebealing”. I, who signed my emails and papers about the border as “insular neighborhood girl in postcolonial periphery” …]

From or to the “outermost regions” comes this initiative for areas where outside the “neuralgic center” of Europe are carving out their future in the present scenario of economic crisis (structural, in my opinion) and unemployment (also structural in my opinion) :

The FORUM OF EMPLOYMENT OF ULTRAPERIPHERAL REGIONS IN THE EUROPEAN UNION be held on November 14 this year in Tenerife (Canary Islands, Spain) and I hope to go and see the contributions that may arise because really, I confess, we need them. I find it interesting to share it and in the process, also comment that I consider relevant to mention related proposals I have made in After all, all this are the coordinates on the map that traces this blog which also places me tackling the phenomenon of border whose barriers I cross by “entries” and thus I show so as I am, transparent, and there is no expulsion of this landless land that is the Internet (ignoring domestic servers, of course).

It is clear my realism and pragmatism in the approach, but integrating positioning on sense of coexistence and synergy ideas I’ve registered like these leave no doubt about it:

That said, if it goes well, I will share conclusions

Mapping I´m going, mapping I am coming …

“Borderland” from Teruel (Spain)

It has been over five years since the opening of INTRANSITOFILIA …
During that time the issue of the border has been very present in my life : dissertation ( the reason for starting that blog) , jobs ( researcher , intercultural mediator and Spanish teacher to non – Spanish-speaking foreigner who often do not correspond with reality because I had students born in Spain despite not control Spanish language ), travel , …
At the same time the blog itself has evolved and make a blog is becoming easier but also requires more materials and supports many differents . Thus pages 2.0, marketing 3.0 and up to 4G line have been developed,  and we communicate from the SMS to WhatsApp or twit, the curriculum on paper has been changed to digital or/and audiovisual one … and we have changed from immigration on Spain to a Spanish emigration.

I recognize that in all this path left that blog in a deep coma and only in recent months had been Image by Chema Madoz. Used in INTRANSITOFILIA blog(ger).heard a few ” beeps” that made me regain hope about a renaissance of the pulse of my activities in INTRANSITOFILIA. And so it was , but giving birth to another . Actually “anothers” : I wanted to catch me this particular domain in the major blogging platforms that exist today and so also experiment with the possibilities they offer me . Let that license. Although keep INTRANSITOFILIA as input, path or bridge – what more appropriate terms – to new blogs like this and as a source , sure, of track materials or to trace the topics which have been treated . Certainly , in addition to this blog I will also work in Spanish in

With more training and clearer objectives will seek to provide quality content on borders beyond SEO, SERM , SERP and SERM
– these acronyms , when I started INTRANSITOFILIA would have been as vocal exercise … – is a personal , experiential , professional, theoretical and methodological challenge that I want to tackle. Who knows, maybe these blogs constitute my virtual thesis defended by Skype and disclosed by Scribd. NOLIMITSONTHEBORDER begins …
